Spencer's Story

Thank you for taking an interest in me and my story. I hope by sharing a bit more about me here, you will see how we might work together on your goals and maybe share a few things in common.

I have always lived and worked in the Bristol area and grew up on the edge of a town - so I always had easy access to fields and open space. This fostered a love of being active, the countryside and respect for nature - something that has stayed with me.

For my professional life, I have always coached and helped people understand - firstly working with primary children and then later with adults. Many people have told me I have a lot of patience! Later, I became a qualified Life Coach giving me the skills and understanding to help people improve their lives and put in place actions that would lead to positive outcomes.

I worked alongside a wide range of people during my 12 years with Avon and Somerset Constabulary as a Special Constable which as well as being a very rewarding and interesting experience, it kept me fit!

Throughout most of my adult life, I have been a member of one gym or another and have always taken a keep interest in keeping fit and active. I have always believed in a whole body approach to wellbeing and have always tried to incorporate healthy eating, flexibility and what we now call mindfulness into my life.

However, there was a time when I lost my way and motivation with fitness; I believed that “middle-age spread” was inevitable (it’s not by the way!). It took the wake-up call of a significant birthday to get me motivated again. I used my love of learning to then study to become a personal trainer, which helped me stay focused and prioritise my fitness and wellbeing.

It was while I was studying for my Diploma in personal training, I received a cancer diagnosis. The irony of studying and practising a healthy lifestyle and getting a potentially life-threatening disease was not lost on me! Luckily, an early intervention and operation removed the tumour before it spread and I am now cancer free and in great health. I credit my quick post-op recovery to being in good shape and having a healthy diet.

Such life events make your realise the importance of keeping fit and eating well. I hope to help others instil good practices into their lifestyle so that they are best prepared to life and full and active life, not matter what gets thrown our way.

Outside of the health and fitness world, I enjoy the theatre, photography and a good movie. I am hoping to travel more over the next few years, so if you have any recommendations, I would love to hear them!

Bath is a city I love and I value how lucky I am to get to live nearby.
Theatre is a great passion of mine and I enjoy a variety of shows.
I enjoy travelling and Amsterdam is one of my favourite cities.
