Exfoliate 24-48 hours before your appointment. Exfoliating helps remove dead skin cells, giving your spray tan a smoother base to adhere to. Avoid exfoliating right before your spray tan, as it may make your skin more sensitive. The easiest way to exfoliate is with a dry, medium-soft brush but this can be more stressful for the skin. My preferred way is to use exfoliating gloves or a loofah in the shower along with a simple exfoliating body wash, ideally using a pH balanced soap.
Keep your skin hydrated in the days leading up to your spray tan. However, don't use any moisturisers right before your appointment as they can create a barrier and cause uneven absorption. I will put a light moisturiser on your elbows, knees, hands, and feet to prevent these areas from absorbing too much product.
Shaving or waxing directly before your spray tan may irritate your skin, leading to uneven tanning. If possible, shave or wax at least 24 hours in advance. Facial shaving on the day is fine, unless you suffer from shaving rash or irritations.
On the day of your session, do not use any soap, deodorant, cosmetics or lotion of any type on your skin. Make sure to wipe your skin down to remove any residual moisturiser prior to your morning shower and shower/ bathe with clear water only.
Wear loose, dark clothing to your appointment, and as the spray can sometimes transfer to fabrics, especially if it's not fully dry.
If you’re having a full-body spray tan, wear swimwear, thong, or disposable G-string. Any skin covered by clothing will not get tanned, so think about what shape you would like your tan lines to be. If you want a full body tan, I can supply modesty socks to cover the bare minimum! You may also want to bring a hairnet if you have long hair.
If you have any questions, please do contact me in advance.
Even though reactions are rare, it's crucial to have a patch test before your spray tan to check for any allergic reactions to the tanning solution, preventing potential skin irritation or discomfort. Ideally, this should be done 24 hours prior to your full tan. However, if you've used comparable cosmetic products without issue, a small test can be applied during your tanning session if you wish. I will ask for your preference before our session.
Bring loose fitting, dark clothing to the session to wear after your tanning - baggy trackies and teeshirt/vest are ideal.
Even though the tanning products I use are quick drying, some product may rub off onto clothing. However, it doesn't stain and is easy to wash out on a normal laundry cycle (light, delicate white fabrics such as lace and silk, may discolour).
If you are having a tan prior to a photoshoot, I advise wearing dark clothing for the first few setups. While the tan usually feels dry to the touch almost instantly, be aware that there may be some transference onto your clothes before your first shower, so avoid light colours or tight fabrics initially. Get ready to showcase beautifully bronzed, glowing skin – you'll notice how the even colour fantastically enhances muscle definition, making your physique look even more sculpted and camera-ready!
During the session you will need to remove any jewellery (except piercings) that can be removed.
Obviously metal is a barrier and any skin shielded from the spray tan by jewellery will not tan. If you have finger rings that can no longer be removed (or you don't wish to remove them) please note there may be visible lighter skin tones near and under the ring(s).
I'll apply a barrier cream to dry skin areas to ensure these areas do not over tan.
Immediately prior to your session, you will need to liberally coat your hands, elbows, knees and feet with the free barrier cream supplied, paying particular attention to the nails. These areas soak up spray tan a lot more than other areas due to the difference in the skin’s structure.
Once you are in the spray tanning booth, relax and listen to instructions for positioning. Stay as still as possible to ensure an even application.
It is natural for your first session to feel a little strange, but you'll soon relax and find the experience to be calming and straightforward.
The tanning solution can be inhaled when it’s sprayed on your face.
To avoid this, take a deep breath and hold it while I spray your face. You can release your breath once the spraying is complete.
Stay calm & don’t touch your skin.
Refrain from touching your skin during the spray to prevent any streaking or smudging of the solution.
Keep your eyes closed.
Keep your eyes shut during the spray to prevent irritation. Some people may choose to wear protective goggles or swimming goggles.
